Community Preservation Award

Presented by: Historic Denver Inc.

Owner MAV Development had previously teamed with Keeney Design to renovate the lobby and common areas of their Blake Street Terrace office building at 1860 Blake Street, and based on the success of that project elected to work with them again for the Wazee Exchange building renovation. The project was selected by Historic Denver Inc. to receive the 2009 Community Preservation Award, which was presented at their annual awards ceremony, presided over by Mayor John Hickenlooper.

The design integrates the original 1871-vintage wood columns, metal hardware and brick with contemporary amenities and ADA compliance necessary for class-A office buildings. Colors and materials within the project create a fresh new look that take their cue from the original structure. Owner goals included creating a welcoming entry lobby, lots of natural light, addition of showers and changing rooms to encourage bike-to-work and exercise opportunities, and upgraded materials and lighting throughout the project.
